FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain - Cardiff local organiser Mayfield Sports Management has been named as FIM Speedway Local Organiser of the Year for 2023.

MSM was tasked with organising Britain’s biggest indoor motorsport event for the very first time and was recognised by the FIM Speedway global team for delivering a very complex event with tireless energy, professionalism and enthusiasm.

It was a year when Speedway GP fans witnessed some of the best racing ever staged at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, delivered on a temporary track, which was constructed over a painstaking three days using 180 lorry loads of shale.

As well as facilitating the construction of the track by three-time FIM Speedway world champion Ole Olsen, MSM also had the task of helping WBD Sports deliver the popular fanzone on Cardiff’s City Hall Lawn. They also ensured that the track and all the other SGP staging equipment, including the pits, waiting area and central stage, were safely removed from Principality Stadium in the days that followed the event.

FIM Speedway World Championships director Laura Manciet paid tribute to MSM for an impressive debut season as Cardiff local organiser.

She said: “While most of our venues stage speedway a couple of times per month or per year, racing only comes to Principality Stadium once a year, and transforming the venue from the home of Welsh rugby into a Speedway GP venue is no easy task.

“Despite the fact, they had never worked in the speedway world before, MSM approached the task with great passion, and nothing was ever too much trouble.

“We were determined to deliver fans an event to remember in 2023, and we could not have done this without the support of MSM and the many key stakeholders who make the FIM British Speedway GP a success, including the Welsh Government and Cardiff City Council. We look forward to working with everybody again to deliver another special event on August 17.”

Accepting the award, MSM owner Richard Coleman commented: "I am very proud to accept this award on behalf of the team. They all did an exceptional job in delivering a world-class event last year. I am touched that their hard work has been recognised by our friends at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports. We are already working on 2024 being bigger and better. We look forward to bringing speedway to life again in Cardiff on August 17."
