FIM SPEEDWAY COMMITMENTS

To ensure all FIM Speedway events take place with a focus on sustainability, environmental considerations and the local community, FIM Speedway global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports has set up an environmental management system.

This will measure in detail our environmental impact as promoter; prevent and protect against negative environmental impacts from our events; establish traceability of our actions and set targets for annual improvements.

ISO20121

In 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports aims to obtain ISO 20121 certification to ensure all events are managed with sustainability at their heart, ensuring a firm focus on controlling their environmental, social and economic impact.

The ISO 20121:2012 standard sets out requirements for organising sustainable events that have a minimal impact on the environment and community, and helps strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including local authorities, venues, suppliers, officials, event participants and fans.

BCORP CERTIFICATION

In 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports entered the process to become a certified B Corporation. B Corps are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

The B Impact Assessment evaluates a company’s practices and outputs across five categories: governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers.

FIM Speedway Actions

USE OF BIOFUEL

Speedway bikes run on pure methanol, a clean-burning fuel which delivers breathtaking performance.

Pure methanol is used in many different motorsport championships due to its increased thermal efficiency, low cost and low risk of flammability.

Furthermore, the combustion of pure methanol does not produce nitrogen oxide or sulphur oxide emissions and has very low particulate matter and carbon dioxide emissions compared to gasoline or diesel.

CALL FOR PEACE : TIFO

Speedway fans in Warsaw in 2022 delivered a glorious display of solidarity with their Ukrainian neighbours as tifos of the Polish and Ukrainian flags flew side-by-side in the PGE Narodowy stands during the Polish national anthem.

The tifos were unveiled and a crowd of over 52,000 fans joined the FIM Speedway family in calling for peace and standing with Ukraine.

SOLIDARITY THROUGH SPORT: CHILDREN FROM LOCAL SCHOOLS

Sport connects people and helps to build communities!

More than 100 kids, both Polish and Ukrainian students in Polish state schools, were invited with their parents to attend a unique experience at the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw in May 2022.

They were given a special behind-the-scenes tour, meeting the riders and enjoying VIP treatment, before watching the racing together, as part of a day to aid the integration of the Ukrainian children through the power of sport.

CARBON EMISSIONS

Warner Bros. Discovery Sports will identify the main sources of carbon emissions connected to its events and implement a carbon reduction strategy for the next three years.
