BEWLEY TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER WROCLAW CRASHBEWLEY TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER WROCLAW CRASH

Great Britain racer Dan Bewley has been taken to hospital following a high-speed PGE Ekstraliga crash in Wroclaw on Friday.

Bewley was caught by Czestochowa racer Jonas Jeppesen in a tight first corner in heat 14, before Jeppesen ran into Lions team mate Jakub Miskowiak’s back wheel. The Dane was thrown from his machine with the stray bike catching the Brit. The Cumbrian became a passenger, lifting dramatically and flying over the turn-two air fence at high speed.

Ambulances took to the track for both Bewley and Jeppesen, with the Speedway GP rider taken to hospital for checks and early reports suggesting a suspected leg injury.

The incident comes as a huge blow to a rider, who has reached three straight FIM Speedway Grand Prix semi-finals and is being tipped to be part of GB’s squad to defend their FIM Speedway of Nations crown in Danish seaside city Esbjerg from July 27-30.

He was also due to begin his Speedway European Championship campaign in Rybnik on Saturday – a competition in which he was among the favourites to lift the title and book a place in the 2023 Speedway GP series.

We send Dan our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The PGE Ekstraliga contest was won by Czestochowa, with Danish ace Leon Madsen racking up 14 points, while Kacper Woryna scored 13 paid 14 and Miskowiak tallied 12.

Wroclaw hero Maciej Janowski raced to 15 points for the home side, with Gleb Chugunov notching nine. Bewley scored six paid seven prior to his crash, while Tai Woffinden tallied five paid six.

The day’s other match between Gorzow and Grudziadz at Edward Jancarz Stadium was postponed due to torrential rain.
