ZMARZLIK DOCUMENTARY DEBUTS ON EUROSPORT TONIGHT

Polish triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik admits every Speedway GP title gives him “a different satisfaction” as Eurosport profiles him in a special documentary, ‘Bartosz Zmarzlik: At the Height of Speed.’

The hour-long documentary premieres on Eurosport 1 on Tuesday evening at midnight (24:00 CET) – straight after the evening’s live World Championship Snooker action from Sheffield - with the programme set to be aired in over 50 countries across Europe.

An extended documentary will be screened as a special three-part series in Poland, with all three episodes available via Player.pl on May 8, with episode one to be broadcast on Eurosport in Poland on May 13. Episodes two and three will follow on June 24 and July 29.

As well as hearing from Zmarzlik about his astonishing charge to three Speedway GP world titles in four seasons, we catch up with his biggest rivals to get their verdict on the Szczecin-born icon, as well as going behind the scenes at the Team Zmarzlik workshop, where we meet his crew, wife Sandra and young son Antek. The show also features plenty of footage of Zmarzlik’s most iconic Speedway GP moments in recent years. 

The Pole has already lifted the sport’s biggest prize in 2019, 2020 and 2022. As he goes for No.4 in 2023, he admits his world title wins were all very special for different reasons. 

He told the Eurosport team: “Winning in 2019 was different for me because it was the first one. The second one was different because it was two in a row. The third one was different again because I finished it one round early.

“Every title is incredibly valuable to me, and I can’t say which one is the best. Each one gives me a different satisfaction.”

Zmarzlik launches his world title defence at the Tehnix FIM Speedway GP of Croatia on Saturday. He stormed to victory in the 2022 event in Donji Kraljevec and admits topping the podium that night was the perfect starting point to his season after falling just short of Speedway GP title No.3 in 2021.

He said: “Croatia at the beginning of the year was so important. When you win, you feel really good about it because you feel very strong. I really wanted, after feeling a bit unsatisfied with the result in 2021, to start – frankly on a high note.

“The calendar didn’t really work out because the day before, I was racing in Grudziadz, and I was on the road all the time. By 10 o’clock after the meeting, I didn’t know where I was. I was so tired.

“It was the first competition under a new promoter where we had four briefings and there wasn’t much time to eat. It was a crazy day, but I ended it with a big smile, and I went back home.”
