WRIGHT BACK ON TRACK WITH OXFORDWRIGHT BACK ON TRACK WITH OXFORD

Oxford recruit Charles Wright says he is fighting fit for his Spires debut as he returns to action following his season-ending crash in Wroclaw last September.

Wright was handed an unexpected PGE Ekstraliga debut at the Olympic Stadium after Tai Woffinden’s season was ended by injury when he crashed out of the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain - Cardiff on September 2.

But the 2019 British champion also found himself on the sidelines after sustaining multiple injuries in Wrocław’s play-off semi-final decider with Torun on September 10.

After undergoing a winter of intense rehabilitation, Wright is back on track and makes his debut for Sports Insure Premiership newcomers Oxford at home to Birmingham on Thursday.

The rider is happy with his progress ahead of Wednesday’s press and practice day at Cowley and his racing return 24 hours later.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of practice sessions at Workington and Belle Vue and feel ready to go. Obviously the end to last season was far from ideal, but my body feels good and all the equipment is prepped for Wednesday’s first practice.

“It has been a race against time to get fit. I’ve had to train hard behind the scenes, which has required a lot of determination and will power, but I’ve used my knowledge from working with good people previously to push myself on.

“It’s good we’ll have the opportunity to get out on track ahead of Birmingham’s visit. I’m excited to meet all the boys and hopefully we can pick up our first win of the year.”
