ZMARZLIK EXTENDS POLISH CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD WITH PILA WIN

Triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik edged closer to retaining his Polish Championship crown after topping the podium at round two in Pila on Sunday.

Zmarzlik won the meeting ahead of Speedway GP rival Maciej Janowski in second, Patryk Dudek in third and former world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel in fourth place.

The Speedway GP World Championship leader bounced back from his Malilla semi-final exit by topping the heat scorechart on 13 points – a figure matched by Dudek.

Zmarzlik then took the chequered flag in the final, claiming an additional three championship points plus one bonus point for winning the most heats, which left him with 17 in total from Pila. He tops the Polish Championship standings on 34 overall.

Janowski earned 14 points in Pila and is second on 27, with Dudek also registering 14. He holds third place on 25, with Hampel fourth on 19.

With a maximum of 19 points up for grabs at the final round in Krosno on July 30 – the day after the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final in Wroclaw – Zmarzlik needs 13 points to be certain of winning his national title for the third straight season.

Zmarzlik and Dudek qualified for the Pila final automatically, with Hampel joining them after winning the semi-final ahead of Janowski in second, Janusz Kolodziej in third and Dominik Kubera in fourth.
