THOMSEN: GORZOW GOING FOR GOLDTHOMSEN: GORZOW GOING FOR GOLD

Danish champion Anders Thomsen believes his Polish side Gorzow has what it takes to go for PGE Ekstraliga gold in 2022.

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix star is back at the Edward Jancarz Stadium alongside the likes of double world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, Martin Vaculik, Szymon Wozniak and new signing Patrick Hansen.

Gorzow won the bronze medal play-off in last season’s PGE Ekstraliga, having secured silver medals in 2020.

While the men in blue and yellow face stiff competition from the likes of defending champions Wroclaw, 2021 runners-up Lublin and a significantly-strengthened Torun team, Thomsen would love to complete his PGE Ekstraliga medal collection with a gold this year.

He said: “There are a few strong teams, but I see our team as one of the strongest, if not the strongest. I know how good Wroclaw can be on their home track, so it will be tough. But anything can happen. The other riders only have two wheels too – we just need to be better on the day.

“It’s time to go for the top now. We have one silver and one bronze medal, so the next step must be the gold one.”

Thomsen has a close bond with his Gorzow team mates on and off the track. He even went on holiday with Zmarzlik in 2020 and Vaculik helped him land a place at the club just over three years ago.

“If you have a good team spirit, it makes you much better,” Thomsen said. “You know what the other boys are thinking.

“We know each other well. It’s a really great team and I am happy to join up with Gorzow for another year. I have a really good relationship with everybody – not only the riders, but everybody at the club.

“We have a two-time world champion in the team and Bartek is a good guy. He really helps us a lot. I’m sure we can go for the play-offs again.”
