Swedish star Victor Palovaara has been drafted into his country’s squad for the FIM Speedway of Nations after Pontus Aspgren withdrew due to injury.

On production of a medical certificate for an injured rider, national bosses are able to make changes to the squad beyond the three-week deadline for declaring their FIM SON five-rider lists.

Palovaara has been called up by Swedish boss Morgan Andersson after hitting red-hot form in recent weeks for Bauhaus Elitserien side Rospiggarna and will now be competing for an unexpected place in his country’s starting line-up.

The Swedes launch their FIM SON world title bid in Semi-Final 2 at Vojens on Thursday, July 28 against reigning world champions Great Britain, France, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy and Slovakia.

The top three nations join hosts Denmark plus the top three teams from Semi-Final 1 in the FIM SON Final on Saturday, July 30.
