NILSSON FIT AND FIRING IN SWEDENNILSSON FIT AND FIRING IN SWEDEN

Swedish star Kim Nilsson raced to 13 points on his racing comeback in the Bauhaus Elitserien after resting his injured hand ahead of the KGHM FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Gorzow on Saturday.

Nilsson raced to his first-ever Speedway GP race win, semi-final and final at the Wölk FIM German Speedway GP on June 10, finishing fourth.

But he achieved that result with a broken metacarpal bone in his left hand, suffered in a Polish First Division meeting in Gdansk on May 21.

Having sat out league matches for Rospiggarna in Sweden and for German club Landshut, which races in the Polish First Division, Nilsson hit back with four race wins from five rides on Tuesday.

It was not enough to save Rospiggarna from a 49-41 loss at home to Vastervik. But speaking ahead of the match, Nilsson is glad he took some time off to heal ahead of Saturday’s showdown in Poland. He declared: “After I sat out last week's matches due to the hand injury I sustained just over a month ago, tonight is the time to hit the track again.”

Vastervik got the better of Rospiggarna thanks to a 14 paid 15-point haul from former World Under-21 champion Bartosz Smektala and 13 paid 14 points from Denmark’s Mads Hansen, while Jacob Thorssell tallied 10 and Gleb Chugunov added eight paid 11.

Elsewhere, triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik raced to an 18-point maximum for Lejonen, but he couldn’t save his side from a 49-41 loss away to Smederna.

Poland’s Maksym Drabik scored 12 points for the Eskilstuna outfit. His compatriot Kacper Woryna weighed in with 11 paid 12, with world No.5 Robert Lambert collecting 10 paid 11. FIM SGP2 rider Philip Hellstrom-Bangs bagged five paid six for the hosts, while SGP2 leader Mateusz Cierniak collected six paid seven for the Lions.

In the day’s other match, Great Britain star Dan Bewley raced to 13 points for Dackarna, but he couldn’t save the Malilla men from a 48-42 loss at home to Piraterna. Maciej Janowski scored four paid five for the hosts.

Former Speedway GP rider Przemyslaw Pawlicki picked up 12 points for the Pirates, with Pawel Przedpelski tallying 10 and Czech ace Vaclav Milik adding eight paid 10.
