NEW DANISH DEALS FOR SALONEN & GUSTSNEW DANISH DEALS FOR SALONEN & GUSTS

Finnish racer Timi Salonen has been handed a Danish Speedwayligaen recall by Slangerup for 2023, while his fellow SGP2 star Francis Gusts continues his spell with Grinsted.

Salonen enjoyed an impressive 2022 season, qualifying for SGP2 and helping Finland reach their first world final of the 21st century at the FIM Speedway of Nations in Vojens.

A crash in his opening race in the FIM SON Final left Salonen with a broken collarbone and side-lined him for the remainder of the Danish season. But the promise he showed was enough to tempt Slangerup into giving him another season in their colours.

Elsewhere, Gusts will also race on in the Speedwayligaen after penning a new deal with Grindsted.

He also impressed on the world stage, finishing second at the FIM SGP2 of Czech Republic – Prague last May, as well as leading Latvia to fourth place in FIM Speedway of Nations – SON2 in Vojens.

He suffered an injury to his left knee in the Speedwayligaen play-off semi-finals, cutting his campaign short and forcing him out of the FIM SGP2 of Poland – Torun on September 30.

But like Salonen, Latvia’s next top star is being tipped to impress in 2023 – the year FIM Speedway returns to Gusts’ homeland with the FIM Speedway GP of Latvia – Riga on August 12 and SON2 at Bikernieki 24 hours earlier.
