Danish racer Patrick Hansen is targeting a spot in the Speedway GP and Speedway European Championship qualifiers as he makes his racing return with Speedwayligaen club Grindsted in 2024.

Hansen has been confirmed as part of a stellar squad, also featuring the likes of triple world champion Nicki Pedersen, French racer David Bellego, former SGP winner Kenneth Bjerre and Polish stars Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Tobiasz Musielak.

Hansen finished third in last season’s Danish Championship but suffered multiple injuries in an horrific crash with Rybnik teammate Patryk Wojdylo in heat three of the club’s 50-40 Polish First Division defeat in Ostrow on August 26. But the 25-year-old is on the road to recovery ahead of the new season and is determined to find his form both with Grindsted and individually.

He will compete in Denmark’s national qualifier at Vojens on April 16 as he bids to win places in the Speedway GP and SEC international qualification rounds.

While his recovery continues, Hansen is keen to return to the shale in better shape than before his 2023 season was derailed and Grindsted saw their title ambitions falter as they missed out on the Super Final.

He said: “Personally, I need to get back on the bike first and foremost, which now looks realistic.

“Success in the Danish European Championship/SGP qualification round, as well as in the Danish Final, which will be raced in Grindsted on August 7, stand high on my list of individual goals.

“Together with Grindsted, it's time for us to get to the finals, and preferably from there win a gold medal. My crash had a huge impact on last year's result. That's why I'm extremely motivated to get back into even better shape.”
