Live coverage of the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff is coming to leading Welsh language channel S4C on September 2.

As part of its vision to bring the sport to as many new fans as possible, FIM Speedway global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe is delighted to have joined forces with S4C to reach viewers throughout Wales.

For over two decades, fans have flocked from across the UK, Europe and beyond to Britain’s biggest indoor motorsport event, which made its debut at the Principality Stadium in 2001 and returns for its 21st visit this summer.

Featuring 23 high-intensity World Championship races, the FIM British Speedway GP sees the best speedway riders in the world go wheel-to-wheel on the iconic 273-metre Principality Stadium racetrack with 500cc bikes, absolutely no brakes and one of the best atmospheres in UK sport.

Great Britain hero Dan Bewley ended the nation’s 15-year wait for a home winner in 2022, with triple world champion Tai Woffinden and world No.5 Robert Lambert also battling to ensure a Brit tops the podium on September 2.

With over 550,000 Welsh-language speakers in the country according to the 2021 Census, FIM Speedway championships director Laura Manciet is delighted to ensure FIM British Speedway GP coverage will be available to fans throughout the UK in both English and Welsh.

She said: “We are proud to have agreed this groundbreaking partnership with S4C. While live coverage from Cardiff will be available on Eurosport 2, discovery+ and the Eurosport App in the UK along with free-to-air highlights on Quest, as usual, bringing one of the sport’s biggest events to S4C potentially helps us to reach a completely new audience.

“The Welsh people and Welsh Government have always been fantastic supporters of the FIM British Speedway GP, and we would love to welcome even more Welsh fans to an event their nation has proudly staged for over two decades.

“Offering Welsh-language coverage ensures fans from all over Wales can follow the racing – free-to-air from 6pm until 8pm in a prime-time Saturday timeslot. We hope everyone in Wales and beyond enjoys the event and we hope to see plenty of fans in Cardiff for an action-packed day of racing and entertainment on September 2.”

Geraint Evans, S4C Director of Content and Publishing Strategy said: “It’s great to be able to bring all the excitement of the Speedway GP to viewers on S4C.

“As the first free-to-air broadcaster to show it live in the UK, we’re hoping that our comprehensive coverage of the racing will bring a new audience to speedway and to S4C.

“We’re aware that fans have flocked to Cardiff to see the action for years, and now we can extend that warm Welsh welcome to speedway fans to S4C as well.”
