DANES FEND OFF AUSSIE FIGHTBACK TO REACH MONSTER ENERGY FIM SWC FINALDANES FEND OFF AUSSIE FIGHTBACK TO REACH MONSTER ENERGY FIM SWC FINAL

Denmark booked their place in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final after surviving an epic Australian fight back to win Semi-Final 2 in Poland on Wednesday.

The Danes dominated in the early stages with Speedway GP duo Leon Madsen and Anders Thomsen starring on 13 points apiece as they triumphed on 42 in total. Australia, inspired by 14-point hauls from Jaimon Lidsey and Jack Holder, put Denmark under huge pressure in the closing stages – falling just a point short of a place in the Final on 41. France finished third on 21, with Finland fourth on 16 as they exit the tournament. The Aussies and French join Semi-Final 1 runners-up Sweden and Czech Republic in the Race Off on Friday, where one last place in Saturday’s Final will be up for grabs.

Mikkel Michelsen (Captain of Team Denmark) : “The boys did so well, awesome team performance. Anders Thomsen and Leon Madsen carried the team tonight. The team spirit was amazing, we were helping each other, and we had so much fun. It got a little bit too close for comfort in the end so there is some work to do before Saturday but I’m just so happy and it’s great to be the captain of such a great bunch of guys. It’s a great feeling to race in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup. I have been wanting it for years. We always came here with the goal of going straight to the Final, but the work needs to be done first. Australia pushed us all along the way, so this tastes even better”.

Nicki Pedersen (Rider - Manager Team Denmark):I haven’t had much sleep in the last couple of months. I’m excited and the boys have been really good. We went a little bit down towards the end of the meeting but I’m a proud team manager tonight. We pulled it back and made it to the Final and I’m proud of Denmark. I’m glad that the five guys got into action today so that we can decide what we’ll do on Saturday. We’re going to enjoy, have some chats and meetings, have fun as well and recharge the batteries ahead of the Final”.
