Great Britain racer Dan Bewley admits he is “feeling pretty beat up all over”, but he’s grateful for a lucky escape following his Wroclaw horror crash last night.

Bewley was catapulted over the second-bend air fence after being caught by Czestochowa rider Jonas Jeppesen in heat 14 of Lions’ 49-41 win at Wroclaw’s Olympic Stadium on Friday.

The collision straightened Bewley up and rendered him a passenger, as he flipped over the air bag, landing in the neutral zone.

The Cumbrian was taken to hospital with concerns over a leg injury, with Polish club Wroclaw tweeting that scans revealed “a trauma to the intercondylar elevation of the left tibia”.

Bewley later took to social media to thank those who supported him after the crash and admit he had a relatively lucky escape.

Posting on Twitter, he wrote: “Feeling pretty beat up all over but thankful it wasn’t worse. Have a bruised lung and a little damage on my left leg. But will update when I know more. Huge thanks to everyone who looked after me last night.”

Bewley was forced out of tonight’s Speedway European Championship opening round in Rybnik, with Polish star Dominik Kubera taking his place.

We wish Dan a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on track soon.
