Great Britain hero Dan Bewley makes a UK comeback with this year’s SGB Premiership champions Belle Vue in 2023.

The Aces unveiled their side at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium on Thursday evening and confirmed Bewley will spearhead their title defence after returning from a year out of British racing.

The Cumbrian left an FIM Speedway of Nations world champion and returns a two-time FIM Speedway Grand Prix winner after famous victories in both Cardiff and Wroclaw last August.

With PGE Ekstraliga stars only able to compete in one other league last season, Bewley opted to race in Sweden, winning the Bauhaus Elitserien with Smederna. But with that restriction eased to allow him to race in one extra league for 2023, the Wroclaw and Dackarna man has re-joined the Aces.

He teams up with Aussie star Brady Kurtz, GB racer Tom Brennan, local favourite Charles Wright, German international Norick Blodorn and former World Under-21 champion Jaimon Lidsey, who makes his first UK appearance since 2019. Rising Star Jake Mulford completes the line-up.

Team manager Mark Lemon has parted with title-winning trio Max Fricke, Jye Etheridge and Matej Zagar, and admits he had plenty of decisions to make as he selected Aces’ 2023 septet.

He said: “There were so many options going into the team building process, but that’s not exactly a bad thing!

“I’m very glad to see Brady, Charles, Norick and Tom back at the National Speedway Stadium. They are fan favourites for sure and have done a superb job in getting us the title this year.

“As a club, we’re sad to see the likes of Max Fricke, Jye Etheridge and Matej Zagar leave and we thank them deeply for their service, but I’m delighted with the boys who have come in to fill the gaps.

“We’re thrilled to bring both Dan and Jaimon back to Belle Vue. This is not only a massive plus for speedway in Manchester, but these boys are box office for all of British speedway.

“I think we can expect great things from Jake as our new Rising Star. He proved a popular addition to our Colts team last year and he proved he’s a more than capable rider.”
