Swedish star Pontus Aspgren and Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen have joined Robert Lambert in extending their deals with Bauhaus Elitserien champions Smederna into 2023.

The trio teamed up to help the club to play-off-final glory against Lejonen this season and they return to Eskilstuna in search of more silverware next year.

Aspgren is a former FIM Swedish Speedway GP wild card, who represented his country in the 2021 FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Manchester.

Jepsen Jensen is a former Speedway GP regular and won the the 2012 FIM Speedway World Cup with Denmark as well as the 2012 FIM Nordic Speedway GP at Vojens as a wild card. He was also crowned FIM Speedway Under-21 world champion that year.

Smederna boss Jerker Eriksson is delighted to have kept the trio in Eskilstuna. Presenting them at the club’s end-of-season gala, he said: “It has been important for us to keep as large a part of the gold team as possible. Therefore, it feels good to be able to present three contract extensions in a festive manner.

“Most people know Jepsen Jensen and Aspgren by now. They have been with us throughout our journey. Michael is a fantastic team captain and does a great job in the pits. Pontus had this year’s season shattered by injury, but we are confident that he will come back stronger than ever in 2023.

“Robert was new to the team this year, but really came in in a perfect way and has delivered on the track while being a lovely guy on the side.”

Elsewhere, Smederna’s play-off-final rivals Lejonen continue to assemble a stellar 2023 side after extending former world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel’s contract.

He joins triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, Dominik Kubera, SGP2 winner Mateusz Cierniak, Swedish champion Oliver Berntzon and SGP2 rider Casper Henriksson in the squad.
