American four-time Speedway GP world champion Greg Hancock is back on the SGP stage as he joins the FIM Speedway broadcast team as a studio guest throughout 2023.

The Californian is one of Speedway GP’s all-time greats, having rewritten the sport’s history books across a storied career from the series’ launch in 1995 until his final appearance in 2018.

Hancock raced in a record 218 Speedway GPs, as well as registering 2,655 SGP World Championship points, 1,248 heats raced and 455 heat wins – all figures that may never be surpassed.

Hancock joins forces with presenter Abi Stephens, as well as pits’ reporter Scott Nicholls and commentary duo Kelvin Tatum and Chris Louis as the action gets underway at the Tehnix FIM Speedway GP of Croatia live on discovery+ and the Eurosport app this Saturday.

The 21-time Speedway GP winner will appear in the studio at eight Speedway GP rounds, bringing his expert analysis of the action and giving his insights into riders’ racing styles and all the big moves and moments on the track, as well as riders’ setup decisions with the bikes. He will also feature regularly on the @SpeedwayGP social media channels throughout the season.

Hancock looks forward to his new role at the heart of the FIM Speedway action. He said: “After racing in the Speedway GP series for so many years, it’s awesome to join forces with the FIM Speedway team in this new role.

“Nothing can beat the thrill of racing in a Speedway GP event, but this has to be the next best thing. We are in for another great year of racing as the sport celebrates its 100th anniversary.

“I look forward to seeing the action at trackside and hopefully giving our viewers around the world some added insight into what’s happening on the track and behind the scenes.

“Heading back to Croatia is special for me after I won the first FIM Croatian Speedway GP in 2010 and clinched my second World Championship here in 2011. Here’s hoping Saturday is another memorable night.”

FIM Speedway championships director Laura Manciet commented: “We are delighted to have Greg in the FIM Speedway TV team throughout 2023. He is one of the sport’s all-time greats and someone generations of riders and fans have watched and admired.

“His passion for the sport remains as strong as ever and we look forward to seeing him on screen and on our social media channels throughout 2023.

“Saluting the sport’s legends is a key part of FIM Speedway’s 100th anniversary celebrations, so it is very fitting that Greg will play a key role in our television coverage this year.”
