SPEEDWAY GP CALENDAR EXPANDS TO 11 ROUNDS FOR 2024 AS MANCHESTER STAGES FIM SPEEDWAY OF NATIONS

- Speedway GP set for 11 rounds for 2024 with Polish city Wroclaw returning and German club Landshut hosting SGP action for the first time since 1997.- The 2024 FIM Speedway of Nations heads to Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium – scene of Great Britain’s 2021 title triumph.- The Speedway GP series launches in Croatia on April 27, before climaxing at Torun’s Marian Rose Motoarena on September 28.- FIM Speedway’s next generation takes the spotlight in a three-round SGP2 series for under-21 riders, with the SGP3 category for under-16s and SGP4 for 11-13-year-olds also returning for 2024.

SPEEDWAY GP GREAT RICKARDSSON CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL SGP4 LAUNCH IN MALILLA

Swedish Speedway GP legend Tony Rickardsson was delighted with the success of last Saturday’s SGP4 launch Malilla and looks forward to welcoming more nations into the FIM Speedway Youth World Cup.As part of their vision to build a strong youth-development pyramid, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports tasked six-time world champion Rickardsson with designing a youth bike for riders taking their first steps into the sport.Young riders aged 11-13 from 12 different countries and four different continents competed on the Daytona FS Anima 190cc-powered bike, taking part in two practice sessions, before racing in front of nearly 1,000 fans on the Malilla training track on Saturday afternoon.Danish shooting star Elias Jamil took victory with a 15-point maximum, with Australia’s Cooper Antone second and Denmark’s Niklas Bager third after winning a run-off with Aussie racer Kobi Canning.Youngsters were given free entry to the competition with the bikes supplied by Warner Bros. Discovery Sports – maintained by Rickardsson’s professional team, led by his former mechanic Tomasz Suskiewicz. Families were only required to cover travel costs as they journeyed from as far afield as Australia, the US and Argentina to take part. Rickardsson was elated with the progress made by the SGP4 class of 2023.

DANISH TALENT JAMIL RACES TO 15-POINT MAX TO WIN FIRST-EVER SGP4 CROWN

Danish shooting star Elias Jamil was elated to make history after winning the first-ever FIM Speedway Youth World Cup (SGP4) with a 15-point maximum at Swedish track Malilla on Saturday.Launched as part of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports’ vision to train a new generation of champions, the SGP4 project has been developed over the past two years, with six-time world champion Tony Rickardsson designing a bike for the sport’s newest riders, aged between 11 and 13.Riders from 12 different countries and four different continents headed to the iconic Malilla racetrack in the Swedish forests, where they took part in two practice sessions under Rickardsson’s watchful eye. Two f world champions Erik Gundersen – Denmark’s master of youth development – and American legend Greg Hancock were also on hand to offer their pearls of wisdom, with the Speedway GP riders watching the racing today.Jamil was unbeaten over five fantastic rides, culminating in a fine pass on Czech racer Karel Prusa on the final lap of heat 20 to seal his title ahead of Australian star Cooper Antone in second on 13 points. Denmark’s Niklas Bager took third spot after winning a run-off with Australia’s Kobi Canning for the bronze medal.The delighted Jamil loved his first SGP4 experience, witnessed by hundreds of fans, who packed the stands of the Malilla training track for one of the biggest crowds ever witnessed for an event of this level.

FIM Speedway global ambassador Tony Rickardsson hopes the FIM SGP4 project can inspire generations of Speedway GP world champions as the sport’s newest youth category makes its historic debut in Malilla, Sweden on Saturday.As part of their vision to build a clear pathway for young riders to progress to Speedway GP, global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports tasked six-time FIM Speedway world champion Tony Rickardsson with designing a brand-new entry-level bike for the sport’s youngest riders.The SGP4 bike with its Daytona FS Anima 190cc engine was unveiled earlier this year and is now available to order online via www.minispeedway.pl.Rickardsson’s goal was to deliver a machine that should “look like a big bike, sound like a big bike and, most importantly, it should ride like a big bike, but in a small package and for a reasonable sum of money.”Eighteen riders from 12 different nations and four continents compete on the SGP4 bike in Malilla in a bid to be crowned winner of the brand-new FIM Speedway Youth World Cup.After months of painstaking testing and design work, Rickardsson is delighted to see the SGP4 bike debut on the Skrotfrag Arena’s training track at 14:30 CET on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the Holmgrens Bil FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla that evening.

DANISH FIM SGP4 RIDER VILLADS PEDERSEN LIFTS FIM SPEEDWAY YOUTH GOLD TROPHY IN HOLSTED

Denmark’s Villads Pedersen made a real statement of intent ahead of next Saturday’s FIM SGP4 showdown in Malilla by lifting the FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy in Holsted on Saturday.Pedersen raced to a 15-point maximum to win the 85cc event in his homeland, finishing ahead of fellow Danish star Elias Jamil, who was second on 13, and Germany’s Carlos Gennerich, who took third spot on 12.The 85cc championship originally fired 2001 winner and now world No.2 and double European champion Leon Madsen into the international spotlight, and it has been consistently dominated by the northern European nations, with other countries staging youth events on 125cc machines.But Pedersen is set for a different challenge when he faces off with riders aged 11-13 from all over the world on the brand-new FIM SGP4 190cc bike designed by six-time world champion Tony Rickardsson in the first-ever FIM Speedway Youth World Cup on the Malilla training track at 14:30 CET next Saturday afternoon.He will come up against Germany’s Niklas Bager, who took fourth spot in the Holsted meeting on 11 points. Australia’s Cooper Antone is among the SGP4 contenders. He was seventh in the 85cc event on eight points. He will face off with Finland’s Niko Hatva, who was 12th in Denmark on six points.Great Britain’s SGP4 rider Oliver Bovingdon also heads to Malilla on a high after winning the 125cc class in the British Youth Championships.
