THOMSEN: I'LL MAKE THE MOST OF SPEEDWAY GP SHOTTHOMSEN: I'LL MAKE THE MOST OF SPEEDWAY GP SHOT

Danish racer Anders Thomsen pledged to “invest everything I have” into his 2023 Speedway GP season, admitting “maybe this is the last shot I have at showing I am worth being in the Grand Prix.”

The Vojens man stormed to his first-ever victory at the 3W FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Gorzow last June, sending the crowd wild by leading Polish teammates Martin Vaculik and Bartosz Zmarzlik to a Stal Gorzow one-two-three.

But the season ended in agony when Thomsen suffered a badly broken leg at the FIM GP Challenge in Glasgow on August 20.

The double Danish champion was handed a permanent wild card for this year’s Speedway GP series, allowing him to retain his place at the sport’s top table. And Thomsen is determined to make the absolute most of the opportunity afforded to him by the SGP Commission.

He said: “I am really, really focused for next year already. I received a Speedway GP wild card and maybe this is the last shot I have at showing I am worth being in the Grand Prix. I will put and invest everything I have into it, and I want to have a really good Grand Prix season.”

Thomsen’s win at Gorzow’s Edward Jancarz Stadium, which the rider celebrated in unique style with a victory lap in his underpants, has certainly given him a taste for Speedway GP glory – and he wants more in 2023.

He said: “That feeling of getting on top of the Speedway GP podium for the first time in Gorzow … I can’t really explain that. It had been a dream since I was a kid to be up there with the boys in Speedway GP.

“I always hoped I would be in there one day and standing on top of the podium. I want that feeling again. It was amazing. I am really focused and hungry to do the job next season.”
