As the countdown continues to the 2022 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, FIMSpeeedway.com looks ahead to the action. Next up, we feature the return of the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on August 13 at 5pm.

After two seasons away, Speedway GP bikes roar back into Principality Stadium to celebrate the 20th staging of Britain’s biggest arena motorsport event.

And, for the first time ever, one ticket offers fans two days of racing this year as Cardiff also stages the FIM SGP2 of Great Britain on Sunday, August 14 at 1pm – featuring the sport’s brightest under-21 stars.

Speedway GP first took place in the Welsh capital in 2001, when Swedish legend Tony Rickardsson topped the rostrum. Denmark’s Leon Madsen was the most recent winner in Cardiff in September 2019.

But Great Britain’s FIM Speedway of Nations world title-winning trio Tai Woffinden, Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley will all be lining up at Principality Stadium, bidding to become the first home winner since Chris Harris in 2007.

Bomber’s last-to-first charge past Speedway GP legends Leigh Adams, then Jason Crump and finally Greg Hancock with a breathtaking cutback on the last bend shook the home of Welsh rugby to its foundations. And there will be more roof-raising moments when the action returns in August.

But the event is about so much more than the racing. The Cardiff fanzone is a huge part of any FIM British Speedway GP weekend, featuring autograph sessions, giveaways, entertainment and a chance to meet up with supporters from across the UK and beyond.

The action then switches to the Principality Stadium, set in the heart of Cardiff city centre, surrounded by bars, cafes, shops and restaurants.

Visitors can also head to Cardiff Castle, the National Museum or take in St Fagan’s National Museum of History – one of Europe’s leading open-air museums and Wales’ most popular heritage attraction.

If you can tear yourself away from the city, the Brecon Beacons National Park is just an hour north of the Welsh capital. But with SGP2 also taking place in Cardiff in 2022, there will be plenty of racing to keep fans entertained!
