NIGEL PEARSON 1970-2022

Everyone involved in FIM Speedway is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Nigel Pearson at the age of 52.

Along with commentary partner Kelvin Tatum, Nigel has become the voice of speedway and the soundtrack to a generation of iconic racing moments, culminating in his final FIM event, which saw Great Britain win their first world championship in 32 years at the FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Manchester last October.

Every famous Speedway GP heat has been made even more exciting by his voice over the past two decades, whether it was Chris Harris’ epic charge to victory in Cardiff in 2007 or Nigel’s cries of “Woffy, Woffy, Woffy” as Tai Woffinden stormed to three Speedway GP world titles. His voice will live long in speedway and YouTube legend.

As well as commentating on speedway for Sky Sports, BT Sport and then Eurosport, Nigel also covered darts and football at the highest level on television and radio.

Born in Yorkshire, Nigel also served as British Speedway’s press officer for many years, promoting a sport he became synonymous with, as well as becoming a key contributor to Speedway Star magazine.

Away from the track, Nigel was always lively and engaging company and made many friends throughout the speedway world. His presence on the Speedway GP tour will be sorely missed.

Everyone involved in the FIM Speedway series sends their deepest condolences to his wife Kerrie, his family and friends at this sad time. RIP Nigel – thanks for the memories.
