European champion Mikkel Michelsen has expressed his frustration after being forced out of tonight’s Danish Championship Final in Holsted.

Michelsen suffered a knee injury when he crashed with Speedway GP rival Anders Thomsen in his club Slangerup’s Danish Speedwayligaen visit to Vojens last Wednesday.

Thomsen was briefly knocked out and suffered a shoulder injury, but resumed racing last Sunday.

Michelsen, meanwhile, has been undergoing intense physiotherapy ahead of Saturday’s 3W FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Gorzow.

It is unclear how long he will spend on the sidelines, but Michelsen has confirmed he is unable to be part of the Danish Final.

Posting on Facebook, Michelsen wrote: “Due to last week’s crash, I’ve had to withdraw from tonight’s Danish Final in Holsted. It’s frustrating not being able to ride especially when it’s not on my own terms, but in the crash last week I was just a passenger hitting the deck.”

Thomsen has declared himself fit for tonight’s Danish Final, which will feature Leon Madsen, plus former Speedway GP stars Niels-Kristian Iversen, Kenneth Bjerre and Michael Jepsen Jensen.

The in-form Rasmus Jensen, Frederik Jakobsen, Nicolai Klindt, Patrick Hansen and SGP2 rider Jonas Knudsen also feature. But the event runs without local hero and triple world champion Nicki Pedersen, who is recovering from surgery following an horrific crash in Poland on June 5.
