Speedway GP star Mikkel Michelsen will continue to lead Danish club Slangerup’s Speedwayligaen squad after his return for 2023 was confirmed.

The double European champion has raced in Slangerup’s colours since 2010, meaning his now 13-year stint at the club covers over half of the team’s history as they enter their 24th season in 2023.

Michelsen will lead a squad featuring the likes of former World Under-21 champion Michael Jepsen Jensen, Andreas Lyager, Jonas Seifert-Salk and Kenneth Hansen, as well as Finnish SGP2 rider Timi Salonen and 2022 SGP3 runner-up Villads Nagel.

The Slangerup management is delighted to have kept most of their 2022 side together as they bid to build on finishing second in this year’s Super Final.

Posting on Facebook, club bosses wrote: “It has been our goal all the way, to hold on to our core, which has been a permanent part of the Slangerup team for many seasons now.

“We have succeeded once again, and we are happy that Mikkel is still on the team. For both the team and the club, it is important to maintain the tribe, so you can see a real thread in what we do, and the familiarity of the supporters with our riders is there. We’re looking forward to another season with the boys!”
