EKSTRALIGA | VACULIK LEADS GORZOW TO WIN AT LUCKLESS LESZNO

Prague FIM Speedway GP of Czech Republic winner Martin Vaculik powered to 14 points as Gorzow took full advantage of another injury scare for luckless Leszno to win 49-41 at Alfred Smoczyk Stadium on Sunday.

Vaculik dropped just one point in his opening ride, before going unbeaten in his final four heats as he brought his Speedway GP winning form to the PGE Ekstraliga.

He was well supported by an 11-point haul for Danish star Anders Thomsen and 10 paid 13 from former Polish champion Szymon Wozniak.

At a time when Leszno is already without 2012 Speedway GP world champion Chris Holder due to a broken neck, with Grzegorz Zengota and Nazar Parnitskiy also injured, their victory hopes suffered a huge blow when they lost former Speedway GP rider Janusz Kolodziej to a crash with Gorzow youngster Oskar Paluch in heat four.

According to reports on the club’s Facebook page on Monday, Kolodziej suffered no broken bones and now just requires rest.

Former World Under-21 champion Bartosz Smektala led the Bulls’ scorechart on 15 points from six races, with Damian Ratajczak adding eight paid 10 to follow up his Prague FIM SGP2 of Czech Republic third place last Friday.

In the day’s other meeting, Danish team manager Nicki Pedersen led the charge on 13 points for Grudziadz as they recorded a 56-34 victory at home to PGE Ekstraliga champions Lublin. He was backed up by 12 paid 14 points from Aussie ace Max Fricke and 10 paid 11 from Gleb Chugunov.

Triple world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik followed up his Speedway GP final appearance in Prague by scoring 14, while Prague FIM SGP2 winner Mateusz Cierniak notched nine.

But it was a tough day for Speedway GP title contenders Jack Holder and Fredrik Lindgren, who notched four and three paid four points respectively.
