BRITISH RETURN FOR WOFFY?

Great Britain racer Tai Woffinden revealed he wouldn’t rule out an SGB Premiership comeback – provided he only had to race home matches.

Alongside his FIM Speedway Grand Prix events this year, the triple world champion is set to line up for PGE Ekstraliga champions Wroclaw in Poland, where he is set to celebrate 10 years at the Olympic Stadium with a testimonial on June 16.

As a PGE Ekstraliga rider, Woffy is only permitted to race in one other national league and has opted to compete for FIM Speedway of Nations host club Esbjerg in Denmark.

But the Scunthorpe-born star hasn’t completely closed the door on racing in Britain again one day. He gave his home fans a timely reminder of his class when he helped Great Britain to their first world title in 32 years, starring on day one of the FIM SON Final in Manchester last October, before a crash ruled him out of day two.

Despite his fall, Woffy appears to be a big fan of the National Speedway Stadium circuit, and hinted that it could tempt him back to Britain, provided he could only race home meetings.

Posting on Facebook, he wrote: “Love riding for GB but also love riding at Manchester! If I could do only home meetings, I could see a UK return in the future. Just saying…”

Woffinden previously raced for Wolverhampton in Britain’s top flight, playing a pivotal role in their title wins in 2009 and 2016.

Just two of this year’s Speedway GB riders compete full-time in the UK – Ipswich star Jason Doyle and Belle Vue top gun Max Fricke.
