Belle Vue have recruited Aussie star Jake Allen on a short-term contract as boss Mark Lemon continues his “impossible international rider search.”

The Aces had hoped to bring FIM Speedway of Nations world champion Dan Bewley back to the National Speedway Stadium as British authorities work with their Polish counterparts to ease restrictions that limit PGE Ekstraliga riders to racing in just one other league.

But the move did not prove possible and Lemon has opted to add Allen to his side. He teams up with FIM Speedway Grand Prix rider Max Fricke, Brady Kurtz, Charles Wright, Tom Brennan, Jye Etheridge and Norick Blodorn.

Lemon admits he is keeping his options open after giving Allen the chance to shine for the time being.

He said: “Finally, after what seems like an impossible international rider search, we have given Jake Allen a chance to showcase his abilities.

“He joins us on a short-term contract from Scunthorpe while we consider our available options going forward. But I really believe in his talent.

“I have worked with Jake before on an international level and I see no reason why he can’t push on and show me why he shouldn’t remain with us longer term.  He is more than capable of being a competitive rider at Premiership level and, while ongoing conversations continue, I am keen to see what he can do.”

Allen is determined to fight for his place in the side on a more long-term basis as he joins the 2021 SGB Premiership runners-up.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity. It is such a well-respected club and I know the lads want to go one better this season after coming so close at Peterborough last year. For me, this is a real chance to prove myself. I fully understand this is a short-term contract, but I want to perform at a level that might persuade Lemmo to keep me around.

“I want to be scoring into the double figures on a consistent basis and I intend to use this time to really show what I can do at the top level of British speedway.”
